The Oldest Known Melody c.1400BC! Discovered decades ago, the oldest song was found inscribed in cuneiform on clay tablets, and dated back to the period around 1400 B.C. The translated text allows a lyrist to play the tune as it contains specific instructions on how it is to be played.
The Guzheng, a plucked string instrument, is one of the most ancient Chinese musical instruments. It belongs to the zither family and it is the parent instrument of the Japanese Koto, Korean Kayagum, Mongolian Yatag and Vietnamese dan tranh. It has a long history which can date back to more than 2,500 years ago in the Warring Period. The earliest versions were made of a bamboo frame and silk strings.
