Ho-hum . . . another 1954 Topps-style Mantle. But mine has a story.
Everybody and their uncle seems to have done a 1954 Topps-style Mickey Mantle card. Upper Deck had one in its 1994 All-Time Heroes set. Topps had a bunch of them in 2007, and again in 2011 and now in 2012 Archives. And several of the other custom card makers had tried their hand at creating the 1954 Topps Mantle "card that never was." For that reason, I never made too much of a priority of doing one of my own. Earlier this week, FleerFan posted a video and some photos of the Topps 1967 cards on his Fleer Sticker Project blog. I wanted to also loop it into my blog. #413 Hal Reniff
Allow me to introduce you to reliever Hal Reniff, who was nicknamed "Porky" for what I feel are obvious reasons. What's more, he has V.A.H. (Visible Armpit Hair) in the above photo. Despite this unfortunate picture, he was an effective reliever in the 1960s for the Yankees. A local hero in Warren, Ohio, Hal signed with the Yankees shortly after graduating from Chaffey High School in 1956.
