Chichen Itza Ruins - Mexico: is an ancient Maya city located in central Yucatán. It was founded around c.514 by the Itzá, abandoned (c.692) and reoccupied (c.928) by Kulkulcán between 968 and 987. I visited it on a sizzling August in 1976, while on a bus excursion from Merida. Armed with my camera and film, the ruins were very impressive but what amazed me most was the surrounding thick green jungle, stretching as far as the eye could see.
