The highest peak in New Zealand, Aoraki Mount Cook is 3, 754m above sea level. Located in South Island. Māori legend says Aoraki was a young boy in a canoe stranded on a reef who was frozen by wind into stone, with his brothers, and they became the Southern Alps.
