A common ultramarathon question I hear from runners and non runners alike is "do you sleep during a 100 mile race?" It's right up there with "do you have to run that ALL AT ONCE?" and "do they let you eat?". But on a serious note, newer ultramarathon runners who are eyeballing their first 24 hour or 100 mile race are often generally curious how to navigate running for so long with - or without - sleep. So let's dive into some ultramarathon sleep questions and strategies, shall we? Running Hacks, Running Man

Race day is looming in the very near distance, and you’ve got a million questions running through your mind. One of them might be regarding what you should eat the week before an ultramarathon. Does it differ from typical training nutrition? How does it compare to what you would eat before shorter distance races, such as a half or full marathon? Are you overthinking all of this? I reached out to a performance nutritionist, who regularly works with ultramarathon athletes, for answers. Running Day, Before Running, Beginner Running, Marathon Nutrition

So, you’ve taken a break from ultra running. Believe me, I get it. Since I stepped off the road and started pushing beyond that 50K mark over 5 years ago, I’ve found myself having to “restart” multiple times. Maybe you have too. Maybe those breaks might have been forced, or they might have been voluntary. Whatever the reason, eventually we find ourselves pursuing registration pages again. And we wonder with our new lack of fitness, how to safely return to ultra running after taking a long break.

I often joke that 50 milers are the “half marathon” of the ultra world. Far, but not too far (you know, relatively speaking). Tough, but still a lot of fun. 50 miles is long enough to give you a feeling of extreme accomplishment (and fatigue!), but short enough that you don’t have to miss an entire nights sleep, like you would with a 100 mile race. 50 milers have become my favorite ultra distance to race, and I’m happy to share this free 50 mile ultramarathon training pla 50 Mile Training Plan, Training Programs
