Clan Currie are a unique Clan, and one of the oldest traceable families in Europe . They were the ancestral bards for the Lords of the Isles, held in great esteem. They were known for their high literacy and studied heroic literature and genealogy of the ancient Gaelic world.

One of the four celtic cross gravestones marking the final resting place for the heads of the MacDonald Clan. "Somerled" seized the Isles from the control of the King of Man in 1156 and so became the founding father of the Lords of the Isles. Martin de Bosville came from Normandy in the eleventh century and the MacDonalds and Bosvilles became intertwined some centuries later.
