For the winter they have a 12 week learning bundle that covers a different winter topic each week. This bundle is different than their others because the weeks are planned out so that you’re learning something new each week. It covers a different part of speech and fact families for a different number each week. They also include writing, stem activities, arts and crafts, and facts about that particular topic. We love these because they’re learning in a way that is interactive and fun, and the illustrations are always aesthetically beautiful.

This week we learned all about polar bears and penguins. 🐻‍❄️🐧 Polar Bears are my favorite animal, an Art, Animals, Penguins, Fun Learning, Penguins And Polar Bears, Stem Activities, Activities, 10 Things, Homeschool

I pulled up a YouTube video to show them what high tide and low tide looked like, and they said it made a little more sense, although they still didn’t fully understand.

Then we went to the beach and they got to see it in person. They got to see the line of shells where high tide was early in the morning. They got to see the shoreline rescind back throughout the day and experience playing in a tide pool at low tide. It was like their own little kiddie pool full of all the creatures we had talked about before we left.

They were able to identify different types of sea shells and even see so Tide Pools, Tide, Kiddie Pool, High Tide, Early Morning, Youtube Videos, Pull Ups

It was stunning, although Raley was more concerned about the bugs. We plan to go back (with lots of bug spray) when it’s cooler and the leaves are changing. 🍁If you’re local, go check it out!" County Line, Swamp, Boardwalk, Bug Spray, Turn Ons, Check It Out

Heather Tenneson on Instagram: "Our first week of homeschool has exceeded my expectations. Every day looked different, but that’s the beauty of homeschool - freedom to make it fit your family and your daily schedule!

One day we got done earlier than expected and went swimming (my kind of PE!). Another day, after we dropped Hannah off at school, we went to the library and did our work. There they were able to browse books and play during their lesson breaks. The weather was even nice enough for us to sit outside on their back patio. (It made me long for fall!)

Another day we went for a walk on the greenway with the babies. We snuggled on the couch for tea time and read aloud. The part of the day that means the most to me is that we start every morning in the Word and with prayer. For the base, we used some black beans and red lentils, which look orange (I had made a fall bun with lots of different beans, so I left a few of those in there). We added some festive pom poms, some mini Halloween buckets, a cute little bat cookie cutter, and skeleton hands. Most of this can be found at the Dollar Tree or Pop Self.

Sensory play is hours of entertainment for my kids, even the big girls. It’s my favorite thing to pull out when they’re starting to get bored or antsy. It’s so much fun watching them use their imaginations to come up with different scenarios or games. It’s calming, open ended, and encourages them to think creatively. If you make a Halloween sensory bin, please tag me, I’d love to see it! Sensory Play, Sensory Bins, Halloween Sensory, Halloween Buckets, Sensory, Entertaining, Favorite

I printed pictures of memories from the past year and hung them from balloons and surprised the girls. We talked about our favorite moments, the big things and the small things we did this year, what we’re thankful for, and our goals for the new year. This was a fun way to reflect on the year.

Happy new year from the Tenneson crew 🥳

I used to think this. When they’d be home on break we’d get in a terrible cycle:
- the kids would be loud and crazy - either bouncing off the walls or constantly fighting
- I’d get overstimulated and send them to another room
- they’d act out, seeking attention
- I’d get frustrated, which leads to exhaustion and the lack of energy to play with my kids
- the cycle continues

But God began to work on my heart and mind. He reminded me that they are blessings. That this time when they’re young is SO short.

If you’re caught in this cycle, I encourage you to pray on it. They say “the days are long, but the years are short” and it’s true. I want to look back and say I did all I could to make my family Lack Of Energy, Working On Myself, Looking Back, That Look, Off The Wall, Heart And Mind

We wrapped up a unit on France by making a French yogurt cake, also known as a “granny cake.” It was the perfect treat to enjoy with our tea.

I’ve witnessed their creativity blossom. I’ve watched them collaborate to come up with games that they can play together. They want to go outside more. They read more. I’ve seen an improvement in their attitudes.

I’ve always known that boredom is GOOD for kids, but sometimes it’s hard to break up with screens. The benefits of screen free play are so beautiful. What’s crazy is that they’ve stopped asking for them and they’re content to find other things to do. Things that are more fun and fulfilling than playing on a tablet (not to mention better for their brain development).

Heather Tenneson on Instagram: "The biggest “con” we had when trying to decide if we were going to homeschool was that I would miss out on one-on-one time with Hannah. That weighed on me (and still does) because I got so much time with Raley and Audrey when they were preschool age to go and do fun things, and I feel guilty for choosing to give up that time with Hannah.

I typically have to work a half day on Fridays, but I took today off to make things easier since David is out of town. I decided to let Hannah play hooky from MMO while the big girls were at their co-op so we could spend some time together, just us. I had a bunch of errands to run, so she ran around town and shopped with me.
