This is an ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR vintage Old Pawn Navajo sterling silver Squash Blossom necklace featuring FAUX bear claws, Royston turquoise, and deep red Mediterranean coral!
Bear claws/teeth/fur are endangered items (along with Eagle feathers) restricted to use by Native Americans, so the "bear claws" in Bear Claw pieces are "faux" and FROM SOME OTHER NON-ENDANGERED OR PROTECTED ANIMAL.
Bears figure prominently in the mythology of nearly every Native American tribe. In most Native cultures, the Bear is considered a medicine being with impressive magical powers, and plays a major role in many religious ceremonies.
Because of the Native Americans' belief that the bear had spiritual power, wearing a bear claw necklace meant protection and good health to the person wearing it.
PLEASE NOTE: **I've included a photo of a REAL bear claw necklace, where you can clearly see how huge & long the claws are, usually requiring a second string 1/2 way down to hold them in place. The faux bear claws in the necklace here, for sale, have been "extended" with 7/8" silver bezels to make them appear long and more like the real thing.
The old turquoise cabochons are gorgeous ovals of light blues w a chocolatey-brown matrix, and the Mediterranean coral is a true deep red.
All cabochons are set in hand-cut sawtooth bezels with silver roping and handmade silver raindrops.
The naja has GORGEOUS silver leaves on it's crown + a beautiful handmade silver blossom.
The handmade silver bench beads are strung on silver chain that fastens with a traditional hook-and-eye clasp.
This is an EXTRAORDINARY collector's item that will surely become the pride & joy of your Native American vintage jewelry collection!
