Beautiful antique silver bangle with unusual catch mechanism

This is a very unusual piece that was sold to me as scrap. There was no way that I was ever going to melt it down! The last owner bought it at an antique market as a Victorian bracelet. It's not got a hallmark that would allow me to verify the age but I see no reason to doubt it. It has a most unusual catch mechanism with a series of tongues that slide out of one side and keep the thing together. The tongues have ribs at the catch end that engage the other side of the bangle and keep it closed. It's all very beautifully done. It's 25mm wide and weighs 34 grams. it's marked 'REAL SILVER' and has one engraved panel and one flat panel. I've refinished the flat side to a near-new condition but have gone easy on the engraved side so as not to damage the detail. You'll therefore see some minor scratches on the surface between the pattern. The dimensions when closed are 50 X 57mm and if this fits your wrist then it's going to make it over your hand when it's open.
