A meteor streaks across the sky off the coast of Phillip Island Australia. Canopus, the second brightest star in the night sky is notable on the lower right and Achernar is closer to the horizon on the lower left. Higher up in the sky is the prominent constellation of the Southern Cross--next to the Coalsack dark nebula. Stars Alpha and Beta Centauri shine brightly along the upper edge of the photo.

Looking south from the coast of Phillip Island a bright meteor streaks the sky. The Southern Cross and the Magellanic Clouds stand above the Indian Ocean.
