Sweyn II, King of Denmark (1047-1074) was nephew to Cnut the Great. He married three times, fathering more than 20 children. Five of his fifteen sons became king of Denmark. He became king when Magnus died, upon hearing of Magnus' death Sweyn said, "Now so help me God, I shall never yield Denmark."

Ælfgifu of Northampton (c. 990 – after 1040) was the 1st wife of King Cnut of England & Denmark, & mother of King Harold I of England (1035–40). She was a daughter of Ælfhelm, ealdorman of southern Northumbria, who was killed in 1006. In 1013 Swein Forkbeard, King of Denmark, invaded northern England. The northern peoples, many of them of Scandinavian descent, immediately submitted to him. He then married his young son Cnut to Ælfgifu to seal their loyalty.
