As funções do tecido epitelial são de revestimento do corpo, sensibilidade e secreção de substâncias. Esse tipo de tecido é composto por um agrupamento de células justapostas em diferentes formas: cilíndricas, achatadas ou cúbicas. Curioso notar que nos tecidos epiteliais não há presença de vasos sanguíneos. Um exemplo notório de tecido epitelial é a pele humana, formada pela epiderme (tecido epitelial) e a derme (tecido conjuntivo).
