CASTLES OF SPAIN - Castle of Loarre, Huesca. One of the best-preserved Romanesque fortresses in Spain, Loarre's eight towers were once used to defend the royal palace against Muslim invaders. Built on a rocky escarpment with panoramic (and strategic) views over the surrounding countryside, it was located on the borders of Muslim and Christian influence in what is now Huesca.
