During our visit to Lisbon we made a day trip to Belém to try the famous Pastéis de Nata that originated here. We also visited the marina to see the famous 52 metre-high Padrão dos Descobrimentos "Monument to the Discoveries". It was from here that in 1497 Vasco da Gama embarked on his voyage to India and in 1493 a storm forced Christopher Columbus to anchor here on his way back to Spain after his discovery of the Americas.
