In a week or less, lawn grass will grow to a suitable length. I actually let it grow for 2 weeks where it got to about... 7 inches or so and then I let my piggie eat it. I just lift the entire cotton base out of the planter saucer and let my piggie munch on it. Then after he has munched on it to his heart's content and is done, I place the cotton base - with intact seeds and all - back into the saucer and continue to grow.
