Batavia was a ship of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). It was built in Amsterdam in and armed with 24 cast-iron cannons. A twentieth century replica of the ship is also called the Batavia and can be visited in Lelystad, Netherlands.
The replica of Sir Francis Drake's English galleon Golden Hind. She was originally named Pelican but he changed the to Golden Hind, mid-voyage, in 1568 to compliment his patron, Sir Christopher Patton. I've been aboard this ship - a precious memory!
