St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross (Edith Stein) was a brilliant philosopher. She stopped believing in God at 14. Through study of philosophy she grew into a woman of integrity and intelligence, following the truth wherever it led her. She came across the autobiography of St. Teresa of Avila, which she read all in one night, and upon finishing exclaimed, “This is the Truth!” This began a spiritual journey that led to her to being baptized Catholic. She later became a Carmelite nun.

"Lay all your cares about the future trustingly in God's hands, and let yourself be guided by the Lord just like a little child." - Edith Stein, St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Feast Day 9 August.

Teresa of Avila - "The lukewarm do not embrace the cross; they merely drag it along.

St Theresa of Avila “Each degree of grace leads her soul further into the heart of pure love. Soul, psyche, and spirit enjoy the fruits of intimacy: Her “I” now becomes the “I” of Christ living in her. The movement is at once inward and upward, linear and circular. God’s agenda for grace unfolds not by force but by tender accommodation to the true self that she is and was meant to be.” We are reminded of Paul’s words, “No longer I but Christ who lives within me.” (Gal. 2:20)

Feast of St. Catherine of Siena; persuaded Pope Gregory XI to return the papacy from Avignon to Rome. Patron saint of Italy, and a doctor of the church.
