Ecuador's Sangay volcano was built in the calderas of two previous edifices; the current structure is at least 14,000 years old. Between 1728 and 1916 and again from 1934 to the present, this volcano has been almost continuously active, but it's last major eruption was 94 years ago. Though the volcanic cones reaches 17,158 feet and the top is sometimes covered in snow, no permanent ice field will form, because of the heat from all that internal activity.
