St. Augustine Parish Remembers     “In June 1937, Father Peter Harrington, SMA, Pastor of St. Augustine Parish, requested that the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Ill., come to East St. Louis to educate young black students. The Dominican Sisters taught with love and dedication at St. Augustine Grade School and at St. Mary’s Grade and High School from September 1937 until August, 1964.  They also taught at Sr. Thea Bowman School from 1997 to 2004.”

In the 1960s Sister Mary Raynold, walked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. en route to a memorial service for Rev. James J. Reeb at the Dallas County Courthouse Steps in Selma, Alabama. Throughout his campaign, other BVMs marched alongside Dr. King and supported the civil rights movement.

This #ThrowbackThursday, we return to 1981 and Judy Callahan, BVM (Eugene Mary), who sings to children at the Working Boys Center in Quito, Ecuador. BVMs Miguel Conway and Cindy Sullivan minister at the Working Boys Center where BVMs have been for more than 40 years.
