El 7 de abril de 1915 el Ejército de Operaciones al mando del general Álvaro Obregón, derrotó en Celaya a la División del Norte cuyo jefe era el general Francisco Villa, en la primera de las célebres batallas del Bajío, que decidieron el destino de la Revolución mexicana.
