Reconstruction of the Roman siege and sacking of the Second Temple (Herod's Temple) by Titus in Jerusalem, 70 AD.   (the reconstruction by Peter Connolly).  The destruction of both the first and second temples is still mourned annually as the Jewish fast Tisha B'Av. The Arch of Titus, celebrating the Roman sack of Jerusalem and the Temple, still stands in Rome.

The Sumerians were the first known people to settle in Mesopotamia over 7,000 years ago, between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers (modern day Iraq). Sumer was often called the cradle of civilization.
