Once Thought To Be Dead, Marine's Inspiring Recovery Is Proof There Is No Such Thing As A Lost Cause - While on duty in Afghanistan, Kyle threw himself on a grenade to protect a fellow Marine. Upon landing at Camp Ashton, he was pronounced P.E.A. (Patient Expired On Arrival). Fortunately for Cpl. Carpenter, that wasn’t the case. He spent the next 2 1/2 years at Walter Reed recovering. Kyle will also receive the Medal of Honor in a ceremony recognizing his heroism this June.
