She was always extremely popular, even when the rest of the royal family were disliked by the public. She died aged 101 in 2002.
Lord Louis Mountbatten of Burma was born on this day 25th June, 1900. He was Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Navy in SE Asia during the 2WW and later Viceroy of India during the transfer of power from Britain to India. Mountbatten was assassinated in 1979 by the IRA who planted a bomb in his fishing boat in the Republic of Ireland. His great-grandmother was Queen Victoria. B. Lowe
