An unusual textile "find" in Pitumarca, Peru. Crude example of a sophisticated Peruvian textile technique practiced over 500 years during the "Middle Horizon" period. Since her discovery, Nilda Callañaupa, Director of The Center for Traditional Textiles of Cusco, has encouraged weavers from Pitumarca to further explore and perfect this technique. Extraordinary pieces are now being done. Photograph by David VanBuskirk.
