Paul Klee (1879-1940) De vader van Paul Klee (Hans Klee, 1849-1940) was een musicus die zong, piano, orgel en viool speelde. Zijn moeder, Ida Frick (1855-1921) was zangeres. Paul Klee had één zuster, Mathilde, geboren in 1876. Paul groeide op in Bern, Zwitserland, maar had, net als zijn vader, de Duitse nationaliteit. Hij speelde zeer goed viool, maar koos - ondanks weerstand van zijn ouders - voor de schilderkunst.
