Until the the Aborigines, or Aboriginal Australians, came under the Flora And Fauna Act that classified them as animals, not human beings. This also meant that killing an Aborigine meant you weren’t killing a human being, but an animal.

The photo was taken in Brewster, Cape Cod, Massachusetts and shows eight-year-old Helen Keller hand in hand with her teacher Anne Sullivan. Both Keller and Sullivan indicated later in their journals that “doll” was the first word Helen Keller learned in sign language in March 1887

Researchers have uncovered a rare photograph of a young Helen Keller with her teacher Anne Sullivan, nearly 120 years after it was taken on Cape Cod in July 1888 in Brewster, Helen holding Sullivan’s hand and cradling one of her beloved dolls.
