This is a monument for the battles that took place between the Roman Catholics and the Waldensians. The Waldensians faced persecution for disagreeing with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. They were martyred and thrown off mountain tops but they still stood up for their right to follow Christ and read the Bible. Eventually, the Waldensians gained the freedom to practice their own religion, that is, to this day, still practiced in Italy.
