The HORN OF LEYS is displayed in a case over the fireplace in the Great Hall at CRATHES CASTLE. The Horn of Leys was given to ALEXANDER BURNARD, by Robert the Bruce in 1323, as a token of his appointment as hereditary forester of the Forest of Drum. The National Trust for Scotland which now owns the property has lent its support to this claim: “King Robert the Bruce granted the lands of Leys to the Burnett family in 1323. Bruce presented the Horn of Leys to the family as a symbol of his gift.”
