Native American Symbols
The Thunderbird symbolises power, protection and strength. He is often seen as the most powerful of all spirits. It was believed that thunder was caused by the flapping of the wings of this supersized bird. His flapping would also cause the wind to move which would drive the clouds that would rain. By creating rain storms he waters the earth, making it possible for vegetation to grow. He was said to be so huge that he could easily carry a killer whale out of the water with his talons.
