Established in 1899 by Louis Renault and his brothers, Renault S.A. developed a reputation for innovation from early on. During WWII, Renault developed the rear engine 4CV, launching it in 1946. The 4CV proved a capable rival for the Morris Minor and Volkswagen Beetle; selling more than half a million. Renault been a part of motorsport since the beginning of the 20th century. Acquiring companies such as Gordini and Alpine lead to huge success in rallying and in Formula One over several decades.
