Demi-godets
I'm trying to make friends with my watercolors: we haven't known each other all that long and I really want to incorporate them in my art journaling practice. But it was a bit intimidating, and not very inspiring, to see them all neatly lined up in their case... Time to shake things up and take them out! I've selected a few favorites and added a few extra ones I've purchased individually (like a lovely turquoise of course!). Amid all the packing and shipping of my paintings (almost there!)…

Expand your Color Palette! | Soulful Abstracts with Laly Mille
I love to expand my comfort zone in gentle ways, so when I want to make friends a color I don't often use (yellow for instance), I look for an image that inspires me and has this color as well as others that come more naturally to me. Working with this "borrowed" color palette allows me to practice and experiment in a way that feels fun and not too scary! This is one of the exercises we play with in my online class Soulful Abstracts, as we uncover our personal art language!

Texture
Do you sometimes see a work of art and just really really want to touch it?... LOL, me too! 😂Especially when I see art online, I sometimes wish I could reach out through the screen and run my fingers all over those beautiful layers. Texture truly is key when it comes to creating an emotional connection through our art, plus it's such a delightful part of the creative process, which is why we explore it to our heart's (and fingers') content in Soulful Abstracts: After playing with a whole…

Mark Making
Explore your signature mark-making! Soulful Abstracts with Laly Mille
Mark-making is such a personal thing, a bit like your creative fingerprints! They convey the energy that you felt in a particular moment, giving it a visual form, and nobody will ever create the same combination of lines, shapes and movement as you. Even if you are a complete beginner, you already have a unique mark-making signature: explore it, practice it and build upon it! To me, this is one of the absolute best ways to develop your own style, especially with abstract art.
