ISuffraget Medal in purple, green and white: Votes for Women, explained the symbolism of the colours in spring 1908: "Purple as everyone knows is the royal colour. It stands for the royal blood that flows in the veins of every suffragette, the instinct of freedom and dignity; white stands for purity in private and public life; green is the colour of hope and the emblem of spring." Social Advocacy: Individuals using the media in order to raise awareness and facilitate change with campaigns such as KONY 2012 is nothing new. The suffragettes were one of the first movements that pushed their cause using existing paid and owned media to promote the issues they were fighting for. This leaflet was produced by the NUWSS in July 1913. It shows how extensive and far reaching the society had become by that time.
