The columns of Parthenon are not straight. They become slimmer gradually the nearer we go to the top. That makes them look very tall. When you are inside Parthenon it looks as if the building is very long. That's because the columns have a curvature, they are concave. Parthenon has no straight lines, but it looks perfectly straight to the eye. Even the peristylion, the basis on which the columns stand follows the curvature of the earth. The knowledge about the conic sections arrived later.
