Sheldrick Wildlife Trust: Haven for Elephants & Rhinos
The people that work at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, have extraordinary dedication to orphaned elephants and rhinos! Many of these orphans have been traumatized, after watching their parents killed. When they arrive, each orphan gets caretakers that stay with them 24/7, including sleeping with them. The loving keepers become substitute "parents", giving the babies the best possible chance of survival, and good mental health, and the best chance to return to the wild some day.
Daphne Sheldrick has dedicated her life to raising orphaned elephants. Once they are old enough, they are taken to protected areas and integrated with other orphan groups. When Daphne visits, the elephants gather around her for a hug. www.SheldrickWildlifeTrust.org
Golden Triangle | Photo Essay
Thailand / Chiang Rai / South-East Asia / In the very far north of Thailand, where the Mekong meets Laos and Burma, the Golden Triangle Elephant Camp provides a better life for over 30 elephants. It's not enough to care for the elephants though, here they also care for the mahouts who own them and the families who rely on the income. Five-star resorts at Anantara and Four Seasons help keep the camp going and keep the elephants working.
