The story behind the myth. Medusa is one of the well known ‘villains’ of Greek mythology. While many know she’s a ‘monster’ that turns others to stone they don’t know how she backs this way. In some accounts of Medusas’ tale Poseidon attacked her due to her status as a high priestess to Athena. In an attempt to anger Athena he attacked Medusa in her temple taking the one thing that Athena held important to her high priestesses, Medusa’s celibacy.

A quote by Medusa found on Google. I find this quote to be interesting because it shows an emotional side of Medusa and a look into who she is. She discusses the unknown, which could mean she knew she would have a unfavorable fate, but did not know what it was. She could have asked Athena but Athena was infuriated and punished her instead and never would she have imagined what her true fate would have been.

a woman with many snakes on her head and hair in the shape of a demon

In Greek mythology Medusa ("guardian, protectress")[1] was a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as having the face of a hideous human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Gazing directly into her eyes would turn onlookers to stone. Most sources describe her as the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto,[2] though the author Hyginus (Fabulae, 151) interposes a generation and gives Medusa another chthonic pair as parents.
