Found image. I find this image taken by the La Marseillaise Studio in New York in Lexington Avenue on the corner of 59th Street very disturbing. The smudged faces and crumpled state of this pair lies a long way from the jolly concert party characters at the British seaside. Perhaps they come closer to the Italian tradition.

25" (64 cm.) Felt swivel head with slender face and elongated throat, with uptilted haughty chin, and with painted brown side-glancing eyes with heavy eyelids, brown eye shadow, accented nostrils, high brows, closed mouth with painted teeth, elongated torso and slender limbs, jointing at shoulders, stitch-jointing at hips and knees, high heel feet.
