We have four different cultivars of Picea pungens (Blue Spruce) in our garden which are all very similar and these are 'Hoopsii', 'Thompson', 'Hoto' and 'Kosteri'. The cultivar in this photo is Picea pungens 'Thompson'.

Irregularly shaped in youth, it turns into a very attractive blue tree, lighting up the garden throughout the year. The needles display a metallic blue cast, particularly on the tips of the new growth, and mature to silver through the summer. Picea pungens 'Continental'

A perfect silver-blue pyramidal tree that grows to 6 ft. tall. This could be the perfect 'Live Christmas Tree'. In 10 years the tree will be 6 ft tall x 3 ft wide, but will continue growing up to 12 ft tall. Very hardy to -40 deg F, zone 3. Prefers full sun in well-drained soil. Commonly called the Continental Colorado Spruce.
