Creating collaborative art is a wonderful way to encourage teamwork among students, celebrate diversity and enrich classroom culture. This collection of hands-on group art projects is designed to build meaningful skills such as taking turns, discussing ideas, and making group decisions. They are a fantastic way to foster community, allow students to connect with their classmates, and teach them to focus on cooperation instead of competition. Students are sure to have plenty of fun while…

This was an Elementary school art auction piece. Students painted popsicle sticks at color stations. They were then hot glued in a shadow box.

there are so many students represented in this art project that they will be able to do

This project is perhaps the perfect “All About Me” activity. Not only do the kids have to write about themselves, but then all the individual works are combined to make up the “connected” class community. In this way, it connects the individual with the group. It uses my specifically designed tessellation pieces, and it has a ton of “wow factor” when complete. It’s fun for kids and easy for you as the teacher. I’ve done everything I can do to make this a successful project.

So this story of Winter Mural Collaborativity begins with a simple request from my amazing music teacherin' friend: to create a piece for the winter program. The making of this beast involved multiple grade levels with one incident of two classes working simultaneously and another where third grade created alongside kindergarten "buddies". Confused yet? Not as much as my art teacherin' friend Jennifer's daughter was when she popped by for a visit. "I just don't understand why this is on the…

I wanted to share our wonderful results of this collaborative mural project inspired by the artist Tula Pink‘s Tridazzler Quilt. This idea was created by Don Masse, of Shine Brite Zamorano. Check out his blog here to see the directions for this project. Here is the Tridazzler Quilt the project was inspired by. We precut squares and triangles for the kids. First, they glued the triangle to the square. Then they used a ruler to draw the lines and then … Read more... →
