I want to help people get better so that they don't have to suffer the way I suffered I want to be a therapist who can empathize, not only because I've been trained to practice empathy, but because I have been there myself and made it through.

Most of us therapists are driven by a sense of duty and care--a drive to help others. The root of this duty, this drive, is different for all of us. Do we need protecting from people? Sometimes, I think the answer is definitely yes, and sometimes not. Do I need to protect myself as a therapist? 

I like to think about this in terms of protective factors. I have been doing energy healing and therapeutic work for 17 years. I know when my energy is off. Over the years, I have learned how to be deeply attuned to myself, and how to bring myself back to my centre.
