Making over the worst looking and dangerous stairs ever
Bottom post and knee wall framed up.
Newel posts made out of MDF with 4x4 core. Temp 2x4 railing for safety.
The top steps and railings. Also the risers installed using 3/4" MDF.
Everything white primed and spray painted with high gloss enamel paint.
Railings and balusters put in. Now its finally looking like real stairs.
Another view of the posts and knee wall framed up
Bottom steps all framed up. Had to make the stringers from scratch with 2x12s. Added an extra one for strength since I was using a 3/4" plywood base.
Here's a look at the landing with unfinished red oak T&G. Can't wait to stain this.
Treads installed. Still need to stain railing to match treads.
Treads for the stairs stained ebony and top coated with 3 coats of poly.
First phase of the makeover. I wanted the landing to be square and the bottom steps in line with the top steps so demo needed to be done.
The dangerous stairs that had balusters more than 6 in apart. The carpet look is not too appealing either.
