Buenos Aires lies on the western shore of the Río de la Plata estuary, is the capital of Argentina and with surrounding districts has a population of 16 million. The name was given by Spanish sailors who arrived by blessings of the “Holy Virgin Mary of the Good Winds". The citizens are porteños (people of the port) who live in the “Paris of South America”. Most porteños are of Italian, German or Spanish descent. It is the home of the Tango, Boca Juniors Football Club, Maradona and Eva Peron

Eva Peron. Affectionately known as Evita. From poverty to the president's mansion. First Lady of Argentina 1946-1952. Hero to the poor, champion for women. Mystical, almost mythical woman immortalized by thousands. Mesmerized with her famous balcony speeches.

EVA PERON THE WOMAN

“…Buenos Aires, 26 July 1952 Eva Perón entered immortality at 8:25 hours this evening…” Who is the real Evita? History tells us she was born María Eva Ibarguren on November …

One of my favorite people to study is Eva Peron (Evita). Fascinating woman.

Eva Peron 1919-1952 Eva Peron was widely loved by the ordinary people of Argentina. She campaigned tirelessly for both the poor and for the extension of women’s rights. At the same time she was feared by some in power for her popularity. She was also criticised for her intolerance of criticism; with her husband Juan Peron they shut down many independent newspapers. She died aged only 32 in 1952.
