Indian jewelry is strongly tied to its history and culture. The Addiga (also known as “Addigai” or “Addigae”) is a traditional choker or collar necklace. It became immensely popular under the patronage of the Cholas, Pandyaas and Rayars dynasties. Crafted to adorn the Indian royalty who later donated them to temples, Addiga necklaces were later worn by temple dancers and gradually became a part of the south Indian bridal trousseau. Often the necklaces are studded with precious gemstones.
