Wanted to share this case with you guys. The customer checked in a Seagate Backup Plus 5TB external drive that wasn't mounting. Once we powered on the drive, we heard constant beeping sounds. We opened your drive cover in our Clean Room and the situation was severe. The biggest problem is that the sliders were completely torn off the pads. Importantly, don't leave your drive on when you heard strange sounds. Immediately power off the drive.
Do you see the problem? Here is an example of a drive that was opened and examined by a computer repair shop. The drive was not opened in a clean room and the proper tools were not used. It's so IMPORTANT to take your drive to a Data Recovery company that has the proper tools and training because you literally only get 1 chance.
Wanted to share this case with you guys. It's so important to power off a drive after it takes a drop and is making unusual sounds. This drive was powered on so many times causing deep scratches on the top visible platter. There is also severe contamination on the top platter.
Wanted to share an example of a Western Digital My Passport, had some type of impact and now is clicking. The drive was powered on so many times where there was heavy contamination under the sliders. Important to power off a drive after some type of impact and take it to a Data Recovery Professional.
Checked in a case yesterday where the drive was dropped and was making clicking sounds. The customer had taken the drive to another Data Recovery Company that diagnosed the drive to have scratches on the platters. The customer brought the case to us for a second opinion. Here is what we saw when we opened the drive-in our cleanroom. Swipe to see what damage this can cause to the platters.
Wanted to share this case with you guys. The customer took the drive to another Data Recovery company that diagnosed the drive to have severe platter damage. The customer brought the drive to us for a second opinion (Keep in mind that the customer is paying a fee for our diagnosis, once the drive cover has been opened). We will remove the platters and make sure the other surfaces are clean, then the customer can decide if they want to move forward or not.
