Piper Loves the Library: Tip Tip Dig Dig

Dig that Dirt!

Move that truck! Here is a preview of summer fun at the library! Dig Into Summer Reading kicks off with Tip Tip Dig Dig. This very colorful book by Emma Garcia has me digging in the dirt with some heavy duty trucks. Just check 'em out! If you are not familiar with this book...let me introduce you. The story opens with a two page illustration of a terrible mess - a dump of a mess - what can we do with it? Tell me! What do you see? What do you think? What shall we do? Truck drama, who knew?…

Fun with Friends at Storytime: An Inspired Idea...Construction Vehicles

An Inspired Idea...Construction Vehicles

I thought I'd share my set of construction vehicles that go with the book, Tip Tip Dig Dig by Emma Garcia. I was inspired Jane's amazing set at Piper Loves the Library here. I made this set for my library, but I think I'll make a set for me too...just bigger! I took a couple of liberties with the design...The cement mixer is 2 shades of purple and all of the tires are charcoal gray. I used google eyes too. I took this pic while the glue was still wet so the crane looks a little goopy and for…

Flannel Board Fun: Flannel Friday: Little Mouse Variations

Flannel Friday: Little Mouse Variations

We've been doing Little Mouse variations for years in my classroom--it is always a winner with children ages 2-4. Up until this year we had a little mouse who hid in a house, a little fox who hid in a box, and a little cat who hid in a hat. They are well loved and still around, but recently I went a little crazy and made several new versions! You can buy this set right here. The chant is as follows, subbing the bold words as appropriate: Little mouse, little mouse, are you in the green…

Read It Again!: Flannel Friday: Red Wagon Song

Flannel Friday: Red Wagon Song

Now that I am doing Babytime I have been trying to work flannels into my programs. I feel like I really have to make it worth my time as before I was doing 4 storytimes (all the same) each week and now I am down to 2 babytimes and some of those flannel boards take some time. Anyway... I found a way to re-work one I had dome before for the babies. Little Red Wagon, or Bumping up and Down is probably a standard lapsit song. I have a transportation theme this week so I decided to add a few more…

Dewey or Don't We: Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site

Not so Flannel Friday: Kicking off

Many magnificent librarians and early childhood educators have inspired me to join the blogosphere in a new way. Much of this is thanks to the Flannel Friday Pinterest boards. I've tested the waters with guest posts at Rain Makes Applesauce and Loons and Quines. This week, the Flannel Friday Round Up is featuring the upcoming summer library program, Dig into Reading. Sherry Duskey Rinker's Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site combines a favorite of little boys in every generation, trucks…

Flannel Friday-Show and Tell

This has been one of those weeks where I haven't had time to sit down and come up with something original. On the other hand, I have been doing a lot of flanneling, based on other people's past posts. This week, I am going to do a show and tell. Plus, I think that it highlights why Flannel Friday is awesome when planning programs. I don't know how you do your planning, but our location runs 9 story times a week in 6-week sessions. Out of those 9 story times, we need 4 different plans…

Flannel Friday: Construction Trucks | Read It Again!

Flannel Friday: Construction Trucks

Next week story times will have a construction theme. I had lots of ideas for things to do, but I ran a bit short on time, so... for a quick and easy flannel board I made a few extra pieces to go with my vehicles set. This is the set that I had already: Last time I used it we sang the song 'Little Red Wagon' and after the first round where we bounced up and down in the wagon I brought out different vehicles to bounce in. To go better with the construction theme I added a bulldozer and a…
