This sauce is served over steamed puddings, fruit crisps (crumbles), and any dessert that would be enhanced by a creamy vanilla sauce. It's the perfect homemade replacement for Byrd's Custard powder. One warning, however: 1) use a small, "thick-bottom" saucepan, and 2) cook over low heat and don't allow the mixture to boil or it will curdle! Vanilla Sauce. 1C Sugar, 2T cornstarch, 2C Boiling water, 1/4C butter, 1/4t salt, 1T Vanilla. Mix sugar and cornstarch, add it to the boiling water stir constantly for 5 minutes. Remove from heat add butter, salt and vanilla. Serve over biscuits, pancakes, French toast, ice cream etc..
