Francisco de Goya: “Que pico de Oro!”. Serie “Los caprichos” [53]. Etching, aquatint and burin on paper, 215 x 150 mm, 1797-99. Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid, Spain

In 1799 Francisco de Goya y Lucientes published a series of 80 prints called 'Los Caprichos'. In his masterly hands the aquatint etching technique cloaks the line art with subtle and varying tonal effects.
