Pipiwai Trail, Maui Photograph by Mark Corcoran, My Shot Hiking the Pipiwai Trail on the east side of Maui takes you from sea level to the spectacular 400-foot Waimoku Falls. Along the way the trail bisects a serene bamboo forest, which provides a welcome natural cooling effect.
This is a great shot looking up into a giant timber bamboo forest. It is most likely a Phyllostachys, perhaps a Moso or Bambusoides. It looks like a fully grown forest, reaching 50'-75' tall.
