Mauve silk taffeta afternoon dress consisting of bodice and bustle skirt, both trimmed with lengths of lavender coloured satin, Australia, c. 1876. Emily McMurrick (née Waterman) wore this dress at, or just after, her marriage to Duncan McMurrick in 1876. It is believed to be her "going-away" dress. Going away dresses were traditionally worn by a newly married woman when leaving on her honeymoon. Collection of the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences / Powerhouse Museum.
