Red Dun - dorsal stripe on a red dun horse. A red dun horse is a chestnut horse affected by the dun dilution. This dilution lightens the horse's body and gives it darker points and a dorsal stripe (a stripe down its back). Many duns also have shoulder stripes and zebra striping on their legs. A few also have cobwebbing on their foreheads, shadowing, and pale guard hairs.

Another red dun photo. There you can see the eel stripe very clearly. Often the eel stripe is not this dark on red duns.

Dun: standard Dun. Simply known as "Dun," this horse is a Bay horse with one or two Dun genes. Note the dorsal stripe, leg barring, and frosting on the top of the tail and along the crest of the mane.

Bay Dun - result of dun dilution gene acting on bay horse which lightens coat color; darker shading on face and legs, dorsal stripe down the back, and zebra stripes on the legs and shoulders

Lavrador, a buckskin Puro Sangue Lusitano stallion. Shows some faint sooty markings and dappling. Also has an eel stripe.

Lavrador, buckskin Puro Sangue Lusitano stallion trotting with head low. Look at that color, with shiny dapples too.
