A young married Tuareg woman. Tuareg people have traditionally been nomadic, living in northern Africa. They wear dark blue (almost black) robes and the indigo dye stains their skin blue. They've been called the 'Blue People' for this reason.
Niger Tuareg women have a great freedom and participate in family and tribal decisions. Descent and inheritance are both through the maternal line, although modern ways continue to encroach on time-honored customs.
